Why This NBA Championship Feels A Little Different

The Miami Heat dominated the Oklahoma City Thunder with a score of 106 - 121 to win the NBA Championship.  The Miami Heat were clearly the favorites to win the title for the second year in a row, but this time they actually delivered.  They had some what of an up and down season, but they always seemed to make you remember that they were the most talented team in the NBA.

But for some reason, it didn't really seem to clinch our thirst.  Partly because this is just another manufactured championship in modern day sports.  This was also the case with the Lakers and the Yankees, but they both won so many championships that it was hard to deny their greatness.  The Dallas Cowboys attempted this strategy, but were only successful when they drafted their stars (i.e. Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin and Troy Aikman).  Deep down inside we like when teams win championships with players they've drafted.  It just feels more authentic.  Another reason why you're not thrilled that the Miami Heat won the NBA Championship is because Lebron James suggested that the Heat could win 7 NBA Championships and they already let one slip through the cracks.  This is a very tall order when your top three players are all in the mid to late stages of their career.

But take nothing away from the Miami Heat, they definitely were the NBA's finest this year.  As was the case with the Lakers and Yankees once they get to three championships then we'll start to give them the respect they deserve.  Even still, Lebron's 7 title suggestion will give the haters plenty of ammunition.
